Well we had a brill time

Pollybagging and sledging. Ice axe braking on steep ground.Wearing our crampons. Sleeping in a freeeeeeezing barn. Getting water from the stream to flush the loo. Digging snow holes and snow shelters.Lots of sunshine and sparkling snow.

Here are a few photos

Dangerous wielding an ice axe in a confined space but BMC came out of the finished shelter unscathed

The time record for building a snow survival shelter above in 20 minutes was gained by MHM & JOR

The girls with (legs in the air) PAP built a multi room mansion with veranda and then with the help of the lads joined snow holes together into a labyrinth. The farmer will be using them as sheep pens soon !

So many skills learned ready for the the next time when hopefully we can build an igloo to sleep in.

Revised Windmill Policy

As a result of some recent events not being conducted correctly by some Windmill Members, serious concern has arisen within the Windmill Supervision as to the overall safety factors during some of our activities.

Group safety and safety ratios are of paramount importance.

These concerns have come about because of lack of concentration and lack of preparation amongst some participating individuals.

From now on this is what will happen.

1.At briefings you will take careful notes.

2.You will notify us by e mail if you are attending or not attending an activity.

This includes Wednesday Training Sessions.

The bottom line:

Those who do not follow these revised rules will not be allowed to participate.

When you do not follow the above rules,

you leave the Group.

We will not compromise on safety.

Blackpool 10k run.

Race Report From RM

Weather was great when we all arrived.
We managed to tie the poles underneath the kayak so that six people could carry it at once and had the other two carrying buckets for donations and swapping in if anyone got tired.
Set off right at the back of the crowd and almost took quite a few people out as we ran past!!

Raced the "Chariot of Fire" the whole race but passed them at half way and they didn't catch us up after that!!
Got a mention both at the start and the end of the race by the Radio Wave DJ's as "The crazy canoe people".
We at least reached the first 2.5km checkpoint before the leading runners came back the other way and we reached the half-way turning point in 31 minutes.
We were looking for a sub-hour time but must have slowed down on the way back as our final time was 1hour, 12 minutes and 25 seconds, not stopping once.
Buckets collected £39.68p from people who donated on the street and sponsorships are estimated to be around

£400 if our sums are right!!
All of us had a great day and a good laugh and no-one gave up.

Well done to everyone who ran. And thanks to MHM's family for transporting the kayak to the race and back.

To all with A level & GCSE Results

Best wishes for successful grades.

Combine those with your Windmill Portfolio

and

you will be world beaters.

From PD :19.8.10

Hi All

I got my A-Level results today and achieved A*, A*, A, A, which means I surpassed what I needed to get into Uni (AAB),  and, with having 2 of the new A*'s, puts me in a good position career wise!

Whilst the group hasn't moulded me into a fitness machine, my involvement with the Windmill Group definitely taught me the self-discipline needed to do well academically.

It isn't easy to sit in for hours on end glued to books when it's sunny outside and you know all of your friends are out having fun,

however I managed it, and possibly wouldn't have done to such a great extent if it wasn't for my involvement with the group.

The (still less than pefect) organisation skills I've picked up have also proved invaluable when it comes to revision,

I can't remember an exam which I didn't have a timetable for, again this has come as a result of being involved with the Windmill Group,

So, to get to the point,

I really just wanted to thank you all for the time you put in both at training and outside,

I'm definitely a better person today for the Windmill Group.
Thanks,
PD

IFrom TCA 20.8.2010'd just like to echo what Paul has said about what the group has given and done for u

sHello

I achieved four A grades at A level, and although I hadn't recieved any offers to study Medicine after recieving the grades I recieved a phone call from the medical admissions team at Bristol offering me a place on the course starting this October. And I have just arrived home from spending a month in India that was spent working in a hospital and gaining valuable experience.

I simply can't thank the windmill group enough for everything that you have done for me over the past three and a half years. My time with the group had a dramatic effect on my attitude towards life; I joined simply to acquire Duke of Edimburgh awards to propell my med-school application but ended up with so much more than them... infact I'm not sure I even have them yet, they are probly the least valuable thing I will take away from the group.

Like PD said I had no exam without a time table, I was focused on what i wanted to achieve, I emailed around all the universities telling them about different works I was doing that were related and never gave up after having four rejections, i just sent them more evidence of why they should take me on.

All of this was inspired by my time at the Windmill group, within less than a month of being with the group I was part of a team of 18 people my own age raising £15000 for the British Columbia trip. There are so many times that I can look back on and see how it changed me, and basically seeing as I'll be going to university in october I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for putting in the time, energy and money to run the group, and I will always cherish the memories I have from the many weekends, trainings, expeditions, bag packs, fairs, courses, trips and christmas mornings spent with the group.

Thank-you,
T Ca

From RM 24.10.10

Hi S,
I got really good GCSE results today and I too want to thank Windmill, mostly for the stress relief it gave me during revision.
As you always say, it's better to take an hour, or even a weekend, off revision than do it constantly for weeks on end.
The advice paid off. So thank-you.
